Whistling in the face of a hurricane. This one's better: Guardian clicky. If that doesn't get danders raised, or coffee spat at screens, I don't know what will. I'm not looking forward to the journey down the plughole, but it's going to happen quite soon. |

Hooray for the Tories! I’m off for some tea. All of this cash shuffling tax dodging malarky is doing my head in. |

I assume that this is so they can claim they have taken action, when the banks roll out their annual fat cat bonuses? ![]() |

Now you can understand why so many ex politicians work for banks once they leave office. |

Long term I do see things getting much worse here as a result of the coalition decisions. We are still some way off a revolution of any kind, but I do think that with falling property prices and lower housing benefits, people will find their standards of living plummeting soon. Inflation is very low here now, but if unemployment does not fall then we will be in a similar situation to Ireland and will have millions leaving the country. What surprises me is that the public have bought the line that it was the mess that Labour created. What about Ireland, big surpluses before the crisis and now facing bankruptcy and no Labour involvement at all. Yet our misery index is only 2% behind Ireland's. |

Several of us have. And Amnesia, it's bread and circuses. All the while the proles are distracted by shiny celeb telly and gossip, the elites can get away with this kind of crap. I've only just realised what a long game they've been playing, too. We've had our armed forces gainfully employed in far off lands for nigh-on a decade now, so they won't be able to help us out when it comes to the revolution. |

I agree with every aspect. The stupid middle classes actually think that they will not be affected by any such upheaval. I am not going so far as to say that we are all doomed yet, but of we carry on this path then we are all doomed. The housing benefit changes will seriously impact the middle classes as soon as things get that little tougher. These will be the kids of the average person that are most likely to be affected. Those who are about to retire will discover how bad their pension funds have performed and will retire in poverty, dependant on the state pension. I think that democracies need extra pain before they succumb to revolution, but it will be more savage because more will be impacted. In the thirties it was fear of the Communists that lead to great social reform to avoid revolution. This time there is no great up rising of the left but it will come eventually, and if it is marxist then the elites will suffer far more than if they took their pain along with the rest of us now rather than just leaving the masses to pick up the bill. |
