In a story headlined "Fear grips Google," the New York Post reports that the launch of Microsoft's Bing search engine has so upset Google co-founder Sergey Brin that he has top engineers working on "urgent upgrades" to Google's service. Brin is said to be leading a team to determine how Microsoft's search algorithm differs from the closely guarded one Google employs. The tabloid also notes that it's rare for Google's co-founders to have such a hands-on involvement in the company's daily operations.

In a way. Google shouldn't be so scared.

Would you bing it, or google it?

Google is a dogs age old, very powerful, and alot of people are still very very loyal to simplistic things like google.

Bing will have a hard time defeating google once and for all.

Agreed. My sister got a DVD for her birthday, 'Twilight' or something, the phrase "Google it" popped up! It'll take a lot to knock the Google brand off it's pedestal.

But hey, if Google are worried, they will only work harder to bring us, their customers, some much, much better. One thing I hope it doesn't end with, is some sort of court case where Google tries to sue Microsoft because they think MS have used some of their algorithm or something...

Nail on the head, I was trying to explain to a friend why I wasn't keen on Bing, mainly because it has too much going on for me. I don't care for the pretty image, it has made the webpage more than twice the file size of Google's home page. Anything that takes a fraction longer to load I can't be arsed with.

Having used Bing and it didn't have any information on the town, county or state I live in... What's the fuss? :?

I did a Google on my name, and a Bing on my name too. Bing turned up more results (4) in the first page above the fold than Google did (2).

This does not mean that I’m hopping over to Bing - but naturally, Google’s and Bing’s results will be different. What will be interesting to see is how both will adapt to each other’s adjustments.

If they make it the default search engine in IE then it'll be widely used.

I've had a play, and it's not bad. Found a few things Google didn't, but generally it seems to find 90% of the same stuff. I could certainly live with it.

It seems to be much more country specific. When it was launched. going into the .com portal didn't find any results when looking for Ford dealers in my area! Not surprising, I got 0 results when searching for my local town and the county town as well (just their names)!

Even then, if IE still asks you what search engine you want to use when it first starts up, people will choose Google...

Yep it still asks, and yep, I set it to Google.

EDITL In fact IIRC, it had pre-selected Google as the default anyway, and merely asked me to confirm or change it. :?
