Security firm AVG has announced it will be offering web users a online storage service.

AVG LiveKive, which will be made available in beta version next week, provides web users with 5GB of free online space where they can store documents, images and videos as well as being able to access the content from synced devices.

"By storing information on our safe and secure servers, customers significantly reduce the temptation for thieves and hackers to attempt accessing files stored on an individual PC or mobile device," said J.R. Smith, chief executive officer of AVG Technologies

AVG said the service allows a "quick, efficient and natural method" of storing content.

What's their angle on this, advertising? Data gathering for targeted ads? :?

After the bloatware fiasco of v7 onwards, I've long switched away from them and not even the offer of 5GB is enough to lure me back.

The version number I'm on is 10.something (2011 edition anyway), no problems so far, but I'm running W7 with a dual-core chip and 3Gb of DDR3 if that makes any difference :|

I'm still on XP with either a centrino 1.6GHz or Athlon 2400XP.
