This smoking ban is going way to far now.
If cigarettes were to be banished from the UK, then the government needs to re-think how much bloody money they would loose.
Everything would go up in price even more, because of the money they make on cigarettes.
Bloody hell, they need someone who can think for themselves in politics.

I feel that may be the fatal flaw in your thinking.

The ban is only when children are in the vehicle. Why should they have smoke inflicted on them? Although given the way some drivers swerve when trying to light up...

I think this should be extended to religion too. My thoughts on smoking is that it should be banned entirely, there are no benefits from smoking and long term smoking is more than likely to kill you. Yes the government gets a tonne of revenue from it, but the right decision would be to get rid entirely.

It has always baffled me how you can't hold a mobile whilst driving, but you can hold something that, to all intents and purposes, is on fire!

To be honest I'm not an economist but I would think a massive part of any money made on cigarettes is then pumped straight into the NHS for smoking related illness, etc. If I get chance later I'll look up some figures. I think its right that you should not be able to smoke in a confined space with a child. Its not like the child can do anything about it and as a result might be affected by the smoke/toxins. Someone once said that when taken in the correct way smoking is the only product legally on sale that will kill you! It amazes me that smoking is legal. I cant see this ever changing though as any one political party who moves to ban smoking would instantly lose support from millions of smokers.

This isn't strictly true, it's only if you're smoking and driving without due care and attention as far as I know, so just smoking at the wheel isn't a crime.

I'm with DaftFunk on this one.
It should be banned entirely.
There is nothing good that can come from smoking.

I have to say, I'm all for it. I've seen a woman locally strap her 6 month old baby into the front passenger seat, then light up a fag as she was going to drive away, leaning across the kid to look if she could pull out of her parking space.

Er, to all the people who want to ban smoking outright, just who the hell are you to tell a free-thinking adult whether they're allowed to smoke tabacco or not?
What risks they take with their health is their business, what's next, you're going to ban driving/diving/climbing mountains because each one is potentially life-threatening?

Uhm, for the same reasons we have laws about not putting some bad things in food. Like the minimum requirement for things to be fit for human consumption. Stops people from dying and stuff.

I was wondering who would say this, so you advocate the legalisation of glue sniffing? cocaine? heroin? If I were to go climbing mountains the object is not to kill myself but that's all smoking does.
