Enterprise computing is never straightforward - and neither is the advice around it.

Rare is the large organization whose PC or server operating systems come from a single vendor, and rarer still is the organization whose systems are all running exactly the same version of Microsoft's Windows.

Register clicky

I can understand what they are doing, they want to make some money. But if this is true, then they really aren't caring for their costumer base, potentially pushing businesses to other platforms.

The article doesn't make much sense... :?

And if they are on SA, they should be able to downgrade to XP still - how do you explain the companies that have still been rolling out Windows 2000? ;)

How does changing from XP to Windows 7, skipping Vista get affected by buying PCs with Windows 7 pre-installed? :? That part fo the story just doesn't make sense.

If they are saying "wait another 2 years on XP, then upgrade to Windows 7", then yes, the story has a point; but going from XP to 7, whilst buying PCs with 7 pre-installed?

From my understanding, if companies buy hardware with Win7 preinstalled after 23rd April 2010, then they wouldn't be supported to downgrade them and then upgrade them, if they bought before that time then they'd be fine...

That part I understand.

But how does buying a machine with Windows 7 pre-installed void Gartner's "upgrade from XP to 7 and skip Vista"? Surely that makes it a "no-brainer"?

I know people who believe it's an absolute crime against humanity for it not to be so.

Specifically, one person was complaining that Office '95 didn't work on Vista 64 and there should be free upgrades to the latest version :?

I own a typewriter. I demand a free upgrade to one of those computer thingies. Underwood don’t seem to be replying to my telegrams.
