Post subject: | "You're hired" as Sugar takes over at YouView |
The Apprentice front-man and business hot-head Lord Alan Sugar has been appointed as non-executive chairman for the internet TV start-up YouView. YouView - a joint venture between the BBC, ITV, BT, Channel 4, TalkTalk, Arqiva and Channel 5, and formerly known as Project Canvas – is running behind schedule and it seems the group hopes Lord Sugar can bring his business bristle to the table. “Lord Sugar’s experience in delivering set-top box technology to the consumer is unrivalled and we are delighted that he will be with us as we introduce a new, enhanced television experience,” said Charles Dunstone, TalkTalk chairman, in a statement on behalf of the consortium. Lord Sugar may have spent more time in front of the camera in recent years, but YouView will hope to harness his experience as a purveyor of electronics – including establishing Amstrad as the main manufacturer of Sky Digital interactive boxes with a market share of 75% in 2007. Lord Sugar takes over from Kip Meeks, who joined YouView last July but has been unable to avert a series of delays and wrangles over technical issues and standards. http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/365776/you- ... at-youview I've a funny feeling it's more about publicity, but there you go ![]() |
