http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12972445Well that sounds like a £50 pay cut to me. Though since it will be mandatory it will mean that they start the process towards self employment with this being tax deductible.

It is ridiculous. Why not go the whole hog and make them freelance and see overnight rate for policing to skyrocket.

It's worse than that. It's a £50 pay cut with extra money wasted on pointless admin.

So like GMC registration for doctors? That started off with a one-off fee of £5. Its now at £420 per year. That's right. You pay an organisation so they have the right to strike you off the register!

Brilliant idea.
Because the General Teaching Council and the General Medical Council have worked wonders....

Indeed. Which makes it all the more pertinent to the total clusterf**k that the Tories will turn the health sector into, no?

I don't see a problem with it to be honest.

Police officers already lose out on most employment rights by being servants of the Crown, now we're going to rob them of £50 by forcing them all to join a pointless professional agency? We already have the IPCC and HMIC, why do we need this?

What if your employer decided to levy a £50 a year fee to employ you how would you feel? It will not affect me, but I am not in favour of it at all.

Many professions do actually. Sis in law is an optician (or optometrist, to be honest I switch off... anyway) and she has to retake a relatively straightforward exam each year to 'prove her competence to practice'. They have to pay to have that exam marked. Jon
