Common sene. The councils were getting petty and using it as a way raising money. |

+1 IMO the nosey beggers should never have had the right to looks in your bins or be able to demand that the lid wasn't even left open by an inch. |

I wonder if councils will go into overdrive for the next month to get as much money as possible before that wallet is closed forever? |

While I think it's petty for the council to fine for having "too much" rubbish. I do think they should fine people who leave rubbish out on the wrong day, or who don't abide by the recycling guidelines. Here in Aberystwyth we don't have bins, bags are collected from the curb. Black bags of general rubbish are collected bi-weekly, while clear recycling bags and food waste bins are collected weekly. There are similar schemes in Carmarthenshire. Black bags are torn apart by seagulls here, leaving rubbish strewn across the pavement. These seagulls are also quite vicious t=with it and will attack if you get to close to them. If people in my flat put out black bag rubbish when it's not a black bag week, I'm the one getting attacked by seagulls and stepping in God knows what... They should be warned that what they are doing is wrong, and if they persist they should be fined, IMO. |

The problem there is that if you have a fortnightly bin collection and you are on away for that date what next? Hold on to the rubbish for another two weeks. If they had bins they could avoid that problem. |

True, or you could take it to the refuse centre which is five minutes out of town. If you don't drive I'm sure you know someone who could take it for you. Bins are a problem because students run away with them...We have found this with the new food waste bins... |

Bring back the stocks. It is not a problem round here. |

I think not abiding by the recycling guidelines should be a capital offence. It really angers me when the good work of so many is ruined by the idle "f*ck your children and their planet, I can't be arsed" brigade. However, I fully intend to put my bin out 4 days early and bring it in a day late next weekend. I'll be away on holiday. It shouldn't be a problem. If some student decides to nick it, I'll hunt them down and eviscerate them with a rusty spoon.
Driving to the tip in a fossil fuelled vehicle makes a mockery of the green recycling intentions. If you know someone who would go those extra miles for you, then simply ask them to go the extra few yards instead and put your bin out for you. I intend to ask my neighbour if he'd be so kind, if I actually see him before I go... |

Too much packaging to start with in many cases. Get rid of that and there will be plenty of room in bins. Going away on holiday then get a neighbour to put your bin out for you. Get to know them, have a chat and perhaps you'll find someone who wants to take your organic waste for compost. Perhaps someone else will take your newspaper or cardboard to make fuel bricks. ![]() |

I can't help thinking you're taking it a touch too seriously... |

Perhaps, but it depends on how much you get charged for a replacement bin. |

Wow, here it's free. One of mine basically fell to bits as the plastic crumbled in the sun a, one got the lid broken by the bin men and another blew away while I was at work on a windy day. One phone call and they were replaced. |

I'm in favour of the fines. Getting your rubbish correct really isn't hard. |
