Sony has settled its lawsuit with an American hacker who unlocked the secure operating system on the PlayStation 3.

The company dropped its action against George Hotz, also known as Geohot, and secured an injunction that bans him from similar behaviour in future.

Anyone else suspect Sony didn't have the courage to go with it's convictions (or maybe all the evidence)? Maybe top brass were afraid of Anonymous... :|

I'd be

Maybe. Geohot would probably have agreed as he wouldn't have loads of cash to pay lawyers to defend him in such a big/long case in court.

Also a big company crushing an individual in court looks remarkably bad in terms of PR.

I think you're rather overestimating how many of Sony's customers will actually care. Most of the people buying TVs/PS3s etc don't even know who GeoHot is.

Well a percentage of PS3 users will be interested. As for TV users I seriously doubt many would be interested. Even so it might hit the mainstream media at some point.
