Royal succession reform is being discussed, Clegg says

Quote:
Mr Clegg, who is responsible for constitutional reform, told the BBC the issue would "require careful thought".

But he said both he and David Cameron were "sympathetic" to changing rules which seemed "a little old fashioned".

Old fashioned! So what about hereditary positions to begin with?

We need a referendum on this, preferably with an option for enforced sterilisation.

The thought of Clegg dealing with what will be an international issue makes me laugh

As long as the sterilisation is mandatory to members of the Tory Party.

The only change that needs makeing legally is that sucession should be based on who was born first, not which male was born first.
ie If Will & Kate have a girl, then a boy, the girl should become queen.

This was the only issue last time. It can be done quite easily.

Apparently not that easily. The English King/Queen is head of state of a lot of countries. Some of those countries have issues with that sort of constitutional change.

What about the Catholics? Aren't we discriminating on religious grounds too?

Just get rid of the bloody lot.

i would sooner have a Royal Family then a President
just look at the saga in Russia

the PM becomes President who then decides which lackey will be PM
no thanks, i just don't wish to see another layer of politicians, sooner the Royal Family by a long chalk ...

Yes the thought of President Blair or Cameron would be appalling.

Do we really need a head of state at all though? Are there any ceremonial or processional roles that couldn't be performed by a suitable people's representative.

You don't think we're there already? They are presidents in all but name, and we've had presidentially aspirational PMs since, and including, Thatcher. I fail to see how we would be anyway disadvantaged politically if we didn't have a monarch.

We have a Queen.

My own personal view is that in this day and age, I think I'd probably prefer a a Monarchy state over the farce that we have now.

The Queen should enforce her powers, shoot the PM and disband Parliament. She can then return Britain to the formidable state it once was.

Who'd want a lying bastard manipulative politician as head of state? The queen has always been politically neutral. Probably why she's much more popular than Charlie, who's always sticking his nose in things.
