Paris spent almost twice as much as Washington DC, the second most hospitable British embassy in world.
Entertainment bills in Berlin, Tokyo, Rome and the UK mission to the United Nations all topped £100,000, with embassies in Moscow, Brasilia, New Delhi and the EU making up the final ranking in the top 10.
The annual spending on receptions or dinners is enough to buy 5.5 million of Ferrero Rocher chocolates, advertised as the favourite treat at diplomats and promoted with the words "Ambassador, you are really spoiling us".
