Well I suppose that is what comes of having a .com domain. The US treat it as US territory. Would this have happened if they had a .eu, .ie or .uk domain? Possibly not. Though I would imagine that anyone who won money from an american player might lose what money they have left in their accounst as the US government will treat that as american.

I imagine it happens to anyone who lets people in the USA participate...

I don't think the domain has anything to do with it. It's the fact that these sites let Americans play in contravention of Federal law.

I don't know the ins and outs of this, but it seems ridiculous that they are able to take action against sites that are based outside of the USA.

If it had been on a UK domain they would have had to go through the courts to seize the domain. It is the banks who processed the payments who are the real criminals.
