Sony's PlayStation Network has been down for 24 hours and may not be back until Monday.

This means no online play for users, no chat or mail facilities and no ability to purchase and download content from the online shop. It also is an inconvenience to anyone who has bought Portal 2 on PS3 - the game's much touted Steam integration only works once a user's PSN account has been linked to their Steam account, which is impossible while PSN remains off the air.

Anonymous denies responsibility for PSN attack, taunts opponents - video

Don't get me wrong, there are people who comment on CVG stories who make a lot of sense, but the majority of posters on that site seem to have the thought processes and mindset of a six year old :(

I'm a bit p1ssed off with the outage since I'm very close to the level 70 mark with MW2, though I did bother to install a bunch of games so they'll play immediately once I'm done with that, and I'm about halfway through a mediocre Hulk game that I'll be able to sell for the same price I bought it for :D

So you have spent a week saving lives, and now you need a weekend to go on a killing spree.

Shooting people in the face (virtually) is THE BEST therapy IMO

It's called balance!
Anyway, it's given me the opportunity to start completing games. Currently on uncharted 2.

Sometimes the lag's so bad that on the screen you're viewing, you've put twenty rounds in someone up close and they're still shooting back at you... At which point I've caught myself shouting things like, 'Oh, at least have the decency to kill someone!'

I've found that happening less with the most recent patch.

It does occasionally feel like "rubber bullets" - I've emptied an entire clip into someone's face at point blank range, only to be shot. Conversely, I've sometimes taken advantage of the lag if I realise other people are having issues.

Me and another player circled each other for a good 40-50 seconds one time, until his lag got better before mine did  :(

I really do hate it when you end up chasing each other in circles. It's me who invariably loses in such situations.

Sony admits its PlayStation Network was hit by a hacking attack -

After repeated claims by Sony that its PlayStation Network was undergoing maintenance, the company has admitted that it was hit by a hacking attack.

Sony says it took the network down to investigate an "external intrusion".

In a blog post, the company thanked users for their patience and assured them that it was working "around the clock" to strengthen the network infrastructure.

"Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security," wrote Patrick Seybold, Sony's senior director of corporate communications.

As well as gaming, the outage has affected other services running over the PlayStation Network, such as the UK-based film rental site LoveFilm.

The company has confirmed that LoveFilm customers are currently unable to stream films on the service, according to the BBC. In the US, users of film streaming service Netflix have also reported problems.

Sony has admitted it does not know when the security improvements will be completed to make the PlayStation Network available again to its 70 million users.

Sony has not responded to user concerns about the security of their personal information, including credit card details stored on the PlayStation Network.
