clicky I've been saying this from the start. You can blame BP's poor well design, you can blame Halliburton's failed cement job, but at the end of the day the BOP'S are there for when everything goes wrong. If they were faulty then I agree that the buck should stop with those responsible for them.

I said that last year, when the explosion happened. It was a Haliburton & Transocean run rig, on behalf of BP. TO grabbed their insurance money and scarpered and Dick Chaney made sure that Haliburton staid out of the firing line, leaving BP to pick up the pieces and the blame... Which wasn't widely reported at the time.

Yes you did. I think most people who know the facts would still agree.

Can't wait for the typically overblown, anti-BP, American media response.

Just sat through a presentation on this. The subsea engineer told them the BOP's were knackered 4 days before the incident. BP told Halliburton to change the cement formulation, but didn't give their lab time to test it. It took nine attempts to circulate through the two floats prior to the cement job. that should have indicated they were faulty. Nobody did anything about the SPP or increase in pit levels. When they did try the BOP's they didn't work. When the gas got to surface the idiots tried to put that volume of gas through the degasser rather than just venting it. As a result the degasser blew up. The air intakes for the engine room failed to shut when gas was detected. This allowed an explosive air/gas mix to reach the hot engines.
There are four companies involved. IMO BP and Transocean's are the main parties to blame. Cameron and Halliburton should be in the clear.

It had to happen eventually. Much of the work had been contracted out. TransOcean were ultimately going to be toast once this case came to court. The fact that BP might have cut corners was not a reason for TO or Halliburton to do the same. It will be interesting to see what Hailliburton have to pay to BP.

Well it's hardly surprising that the media didn't report it, given that it's preposterous rubbish. How do you propose that George Bush's VP made the Obama administration cover this up for him, given that they despise and loath him?

Based on what I saw today, it'll be very unlikely that a court would find Halliburton liable. Were Halliburton even included in the law suit? I thought it was just TO and Cameron.

You might be right but you never know who ends up getting dragged in later.
