Lord Oakeshott, the former treasury spokesman, yesterday used parliamentary privilege to put down a question in the House of Lords asking if Sir Fred's injunction relates to events that happened while he was chief executive of RBS.
Lord Oakeshott said: "Sir Fred Goodwin's private life is not of public interest. But if the super-injunction were to be revealed to cover up a failing of corporate governance at RBS it would be of enormous interest to every taxpayer in Britain, the people who had to pay for the bailout."

What on Earth is going on. An un-elected politician is making some sort of actual sense.

They've been known to make a lot of sense in the Lords, collectively and compared to the main chamber. Even if you think some of them are tw@s (and IMO you'd often be right), those same people will often realistically question the issues of the day*

And present programs on Radio 3 to educate the listeners there on the subject of Rap and Hiphop.

I am much more supportive of the house of lord as long as they are regular attendees, and not tax dodgers. The people appointed are generally pretty good, though considering that Cameron has created more peers than practically anyone the whole system looks like being discredited.
