http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/pers ... bills.html | | | | Quote: Experts warned those planning on getting married not to be pressurized by family and friends to overspend on their wedding day or they risk entering married life “saddled with debt”. Research suggested that while Prince William and Catherine Middleton are unlikely to have this problem with their royal wedding, newlyweds take typically 33 months to pay the debts from their wedding day. Young couples are most likely to spend the most, with one in five 18 to 24 year olds spending £10,000 on their wedding, according to the study by insolvency group R3. It found just 9 per cent of those in the 25 to 34, 35 to 44 and 55 to 64 age ranges spend more than £10,000 on their wedding, while just 7 per cent aged between 45 and 54 exceed this amount. None of the over 65s surveyed spend more than £2,500. Many couples borrow from family or take out additional credit cards or loans to pay for their wedding, with the average amount borrowed being £5,000. | | | | |

Why is this here? This is not news. Just because it's coinciding with some toff marriage does not mean we have to be subjected to every news posting concerning weddings. FTS.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I put this here because it was in the Telegraph. It does show how ridiculous many people get when it comes to a wedding.

Please. The cost of this wedding even if we pay for every penny of of it wouldn't even register as a point on our national deficit or debt. Its less than we pay in interest on our national debt every day. I have no interest in it personally and see no reason for the of hoo-ha, but in the grand scheme of things it's an irrelevance, a trifle. It gives some people joy, that's fine by me. I would observe though that if he weren't a prince, she'd be way out of his league .

Yes the amount is insignificant overall but it does need to be paid for or recouped somehow. However I don't really care less at the end of the day as the jets from the flypast went directly over my house so I consider it money well spent.

If the price of petrol goes up by 1p any time soon, the extra tax from that will pay for the wedding (and, by the way, I for one don't know how the costs of it are breaking down anyway, just what the approximate gross total is) several times over. And what are the chances of that happening eh? The cost of the wedding is no more an issue for the general public finances than what sandwich Cameron had for lunch yesterday. It really is utterly lost in the final figures. They didn't fly over mine, but I did watch that bit - always do like a flypast. It was actually a bit of a disappointing one in the end though; you'd expect the RAF to put on a bit more of a show, given he's one of them in theory. The Red Arrows could have shown up, surely... Maybe they've sacked all the other pilots . Jon

I thought all 7 of those planes pretty much made up our air force these days?

You'd be forgiven for thinking everyone in the UK was getting married soon with some recent TV shows, but isn't it supposed to be dying out? Or has been in recent years?

Yes probably because of the cost. That or the cost of divorce.
