it might help the situation if companies like Dyson, actually manufactured here and not outsource or relocate at the first opportunity.

Do you have any idea what that does to the profit margins.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Exactly. Perhaps Mr. Dyson could explain why we have thousands of engineers who can't get work? What's the point of producing more engineers if the ones we've got can't find employment?

Strangely I think the problem is tied in with the way my brain interpreted the title of this thread Because I have seen these peeps racing about in their liveried Transit Connects I imagined there were plenty of em. Also I had a Dyson once and knew it inside out, due to blockages, belt failures etc. When a service droid likes to call himself an engineer what do really clever people call themselves?...

I prefer upright vacuum cleaners as seem to hurt my back less, but we have one of those little Dyson cleaners as we don't have room for an upright. I must say it does us perfectly, much better than any of the cleaners we've had through uni (most of which have been new or nearly new when we moved into the residence).

This one is a mini upright. It packs down so that it's less than a metre in height but the handle then extends so that it is the same height as a normal sized upright. As I live in a 2 bed flat I don't need the extra size of the container from the full upright. It is perfect, and I got £100 off the Dyson price... http://www.dyson.co.uk/store/product.as ... -ALLFLOORS

Add in that they are also underpaid considering the training they go through.

We bought a dyson. Can't recall the model but it was red and purpe. Lasted for about twelve years, until my dad decided to use it to pick up bits of brick from rewiring bits of the house. The second one we got was small cylinder (gold turbine bit) and is a bit easier to push around. TBH I found with most dysons that the suction is strong enough that it makes it an effort to vacuum!

I would only buy a back-mounted vacuum cleaner in the future. You don't really need beater bars any more as modern cleaners are so powerful and modern flooring is also much easier to clean. Even if you did need a beater bar then there are air-powered attachments that do this so you don't need an upright. I hate ankle biters (cylinders) for obvious reasons, and the best thing, you can pretend you're a ghostbuster.

The beater bar thingy on mine isn't belt driven which is very nice as I'm normally the one given the task of pulling apart my parent's or grandparent's vacuum cleaner to fix it when it gets cloged or broken. The bar on this one has it's own motor in the head bit of the thing so you can turn it on or off when necessary.

I have a DC07 which I have had for a few years but was looking at replacing it eventually. I will have to wait till it breaks.
