I think it's too late to charge Harwood with murder. I fear the most he'll be charged with is manslaughter. :roll:

In my view Simon Harwood should be charged with manslaughter. A charge of murder would never succeed and nor should it. I don't believe for one minute that he intended to kill that day. He was however shall we say "over enthusiastic" with his "official thuggery".

I saw just a few minutes ago on BBC news that he had previously arrested someone that day for graphiti on a police van and allegedly had also pushed a camera man, who thought he'd been attacked by a protestor, to the floor.

Officer Harwood, and I use that title most reluctantly, has to learn that he can't go around, dressed in protective police gear, assaulting people left right and centre. He also needs to learn that lying to an inquest jury doesn't work.

There is no statute of limitations on murder. I think that they can still press murder charges. The problem will be intent. If he meant to kill him then yes Murder would be the appropriate charge. This was meant to cause harm not necessarily death. That makes it manslaughter, though considering that he is a police officer he should do double sentence because the police are expected to maintain the law not break it. Also a charge of manslaughter should be leveled at the Met for covering up much of the details.

So do I. I want to be wrong on my assumption, but we’ve seen this kind of thing slip through the net in the past due to time limits.

Yes to all that though a corporate manslaughter charge against the Met will mean a fine, since there is no one person to held accountable. Probably a bigger fine than perverting the course of justive would entail.
