I am sure that many companies have terms in their contracts which would be criminal elsewhere. The inclusion of morality clauses and random drug tests would struggle to be acceptable here.

Drugs tests are legal here. My company test 5% of employees randomly each year.

I think that if you are working with dangerous machinery such as on a oil rig it makes sense. It might not be relevant elsewhere. Unless the person was drunk on duty.

That's in addition to any checks the rig owners or oil companies may wish to perform offshore.

When it comes to a safety I do think that there is a reason for it. Though much of the checks are simply an invasion of privacy. It is not as if they have to pay for health insurance like in the US, so why they need to do it is baffling to me.
