Shame, was good being able to use a £25 freesat card

Was needing to get a new one for my new home server at some point anyway

Shame that they did it so abruptly though, I think they are the first one to move to dvb-s2

Hopefully this will reduce the price of PC DVB-S2 cards as they are rather pricey at the minute :(

It looks like this change will be very minimal. I was debating getting a HD TV with integrated Free Sat and Freeview HD tuners. Though this does not look like affecting that decision.

to be honest I'd recommend one of these with freesat. http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/products/product_stb_satellite_foxsathdr.aspx

My Netsteam Sat has continued to receive BBC channels fine this morning. I suspect this is one of those cases where one of the the places people making very cheap decoders cut the price is by using a cheaper decoder chip that didn't do DVB-S2. So you get what you pay for, essentially. I just wish they'd get on and make a decent DVB-T2 tuner for the mac...

Nobody is broadcasting anything in 1080p yet anyway, nor are they likely to for a while TBH.

And even the Beeb's 1080i output looks stunning to me on our Toshiba.

That helps. I was planning on getting a second HD TV at some point but not yet. It could be the new year, as I have not decided on the size yet and am waiting for them to get down to my budget.
