Point number 4 really smacks it for me. TBH I think the new Bold looks inspired - the handset itself is gorgeous. However, OS 7 looks a bit of a let-down and not much advancement over OS 6. The two biggest gripes I have with BB OS are the lack of apps. and the browser being a very poor showing compared to what's available on Android and iOS. Other things that annoy me about the Blackberry are that they're underpowered - there's noticeable lag, they have really bad memory management - I've pulled the battery more than a few times, and as for BBM - I've had messages delivered out of order and messages refusing to send due to low signal (and yet SMS messages still went through fine). And as for the new Blackberry Torch, the one due out with the Bold 9900, it looks tacky and plasticky. Had the buttons have been flush with the case, and the case been metal rather than plastic I might have actually been tempted. The Storm 2 felt very nice in the hand and had a 'premium' feel. I have a feeling the new Torch is going to feel cheap and nasty. Still, I'll take a look at the new Bold when it comes out, but it will take something really good to make me go back - like a proper go at a Storm 3, complete with SureType. |

This could have been written by anyone. There are many who would want a stronger RIM. I do not think that any other handset comes up to the levels of security of the blackberry. Even Apple users benefit from more competition. |

RIM is on the downward spiral, there's no doubt about that. They have closing their eyes for too long pretending they everything is ok. It is not too late to turn it around but they are not doing themselves any favours by releasing a half baked tablet (admittedly everybody is doing that these days but...) and spinning the same old sh*t to investors and customers. Their official response was exactly what I expected from them: denial and ignorance! Just admit that you screwed up and promise to fix it. I know that BB is the right phone for me as prefer substance above form and I don't mind to make compromises to make sure it does very well what I need it to do (messaging and calls). However more mainstream users are flocking to iph*nes and androids and it could be pretty soon that Blackberry will become the new Nokia. Bold 9900 is a sign they've finally realised that they have to change. Also it is widely expected that they will release QNX OS (the one that is in Playbook) in phones next year but it will take some time to get consumers on board again. Their reputation is deteriorating together with the market share... Saying that, every day I try very hard not spend £400 on the Playbook that "the whole world" hates (and I don't need but want). I am worried that very soon the day will come when they officially announce that the ability to use Android apps and I won't be able to resist anymore... ![]() |
