Body 'unseen in Massachusetts swimming pool for days'

Quote:
Authorities in the US state of Massachusetts are trying to find out how a body lay unnoticed in a swimming pool for more than two days as the public continued to use the facility....

...The pool was described as "cloudy"...

...The body was found 58 hours later by a group of teenagers who jumped a locked fence at about 2200 on Tuesday.

Excuse me while I vomit - I hope no one swallowed!
:o

A spokesman for the Bristol County district attorney, Gregg Miliote, told CNN that a decomposing body could take a couple of days before becoming buoyant.

That was the fail safe option. What really surprised me was how on earth lifeguards would notice any problems with water that murky. Also wouldn't they realise something was wrong after the pool closed and the clothes were still there, and the boy warned them?

No harm done, procedures will reviewed and improved if necessary. Move along, nothing to see here.

They couldn't see the body in the day but it was found at night? :?

That brings a whole new meaning to "There's a floater in the swimming pool".

I just shudder thinking of the people using the pool in those two days - with the best will in the world, you always get a bit of water in your mouth, don't you? Urgh, I'm feeling sick again.

I guess the light made it harder to spot the (I'm guessing) white bloated skin?

Refraction could be an issue. You may think you were looking at one bit of the pool when in fact you were seeing another. It's possible the body could have been 'hidden' by that effect until it rose to the top. You'd see it if your head was in the water though.

Except from an article I saw on it, it was a black lady's body that was found...

The photo sort of gives it away.

That would bring a whole new concept to “watch out for the floater....”

Headline from the Daily Fail.
Quote:
Drowned woman was floating dead in public pool during TWO health inspector visits

Floating, at the bottom of the pool. Her body may have surfaced later on, but still.

The fact that two inspections failed to find her would mean that both these inspections failed. What surprises me is that people actually swim in water so murky that anything could be at the bottom. If that were in Florida there could be alligators.
