More allegations. This time, it’s the Sunday Times in the spotlight.

Quote:
The Sunday Times is alleged to have targeted the personal information of the former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the BBC understands.

Documents and a phone recording suggest so-called "blagging" was used to obtain private financial and property details.

The Brown family are also worried that medical records relating to their son Fraser may have been obtained.

Owner News International is yet to respond.

One has to assume at this stage that this is likely to be standard practice across the NI publications, if not most of the printed media.

Well I think that the entire media were doing it to greater or lesser degrees. Though some papers were better than others. The Telegraph got its big story the MP's expense from a whistleblower. The Daily Mail was high on the list of data breaches IIRC. I do hope that this means the break up of the media groups with Murdoch deemed unfit to own sky and forced to sell his stake, even split News International up.

If they have Fraser Browns medical records then they are clearly overstepping the bounds. Financial records are acceptable as a way of ensuring they have not been corrupt or are involved in criminal activities.

Just heard on the radio that Coulson was approached by a journalist, presumably one of his own, and asked for cash in exchange for a "Royal" contact directory.

He must go to gaol after all this, even if the murder trial he is involved in Scotland fails to send him down.
