I don't think anyone could sum up the situation better, as ever.

It does show how out of touch our Media are. The fact that comedians sum it up better than politicians or the media shows how corrupting Murdoch has been.

To be fair, Jon Stewart always puts it better than anyone else.

I think this just shows what a sorry mess the whole thing is, and I hope it permanently dents not only the Murdoch empire but Number 10 too.

There does need to be reform of the press. I would like to see an end to News international and even its part ownership of Sky. I do think that it shows Cameron to have very poor judgement. Is that the sort of person we want with his finger on the nuclear button?

Well that is a relief. Though why do they want to spend more than £100 billion on a weapon that they cannot use ever?

The logic seems to be "If we don't have it, we might find one day we need to use it. If we have it, then we won't ever need to use it". Sir Humphrey at his best I think.

Thankfully, but sadly, we may have to rely on the Americans to get the ball rolling in sorting out the problem:

Quote:
A key US senator has called for an investigation into whether reported hacking by News Corporation targeted any US citizens.

"The reported hacking by News Corporation newspapers against a range of individuals - including children - is offensive and a serious breach of journalistic ethics. This raises serious questions about whether the company has broken US law,"
clicky

That's an urban myth, the UK is capable of launching independently; the submarine commanders are also capable of firing the missiles without authorisation from Downing Street.

I hope that's only under conditions where communication with command has apparently been severed by attack. Rather than just y'know, they're having a bad day.

Yes we can fire them but Lockheed engineers basically run and maintain them through their other companies and if the US didn't want us to hit anything they could just switch off GPS. clicky

We're basically there to appear as an independent nuclear State but in reality we're just tagged on to situations when the US want us to be seen there.

If we wanted to fire contrary to US wishes, well, it wouldn't be feasible.
