Hmm - looks like they may not be as keen to turn up to the Select Committee after all. Maybe they will be asked questions they won’t want to answer.

Quote:
MPs are to meet later to decide whether to summon News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks to answer questions on the phone-hacking scandal.

The Commons media committee also wants to question News Corporation's Rupert and James Murdoch but cannot force them to appear as they are not UK citizens.

Thing is, if they summon Brooks (which I hope they do), she will potentially be there on her own, and will be hung out to dry - unless the Murdochs decide that they need to show some solidarity and turn up too. Either way, they need to start answering questions, and if not to be seen to be avoiding them outside of a press pack chase to a car.

Yes but she has been kept on as a final safety net to save James Murdoch. Though I suspect that it might not be enough.

The story linked at the top has been updated. The three of them have been summonsed. Only Brooks is required to attend. The other two will no doubt be sitting in a board room watching her on TV.

I really hope the USA kicks in with their own investigations. The Murdochs, being US citizens, can be dragged back home kicking and screaming if needs be.

I am not sure how dominant their hold over the aussie press is. That might be a factor.

Apparently it's around 70% of the newspaper business there

Shouldn't save her or them. The request to appear in front of the select committee isn't about what's happening now, it's about what happened back in 2006 and before.

Her resignation gives Murdochs deniability - they can say that anything she says is not official NI business, and she is speaking as a private individual. I guess this is part of a damage limitation exercise now.

Won’t have that much of an excuse in the USA though.
