http://www.computerandvideogames.com/31 ... fore-2014/I bloody hope so, as I think my PS3 will be my last console - the big three are just too idiotic/contemptuous of their customer base for me to bother with now

The RROD forced me to go to Sony, which in turn was hacked. I'm now tempted to spec up my next laptop to full-on gaming standards and return to PC gaming. TBH the only thing holding me back are the friends I've made on PSN/CoD and my real-life friends who are sticking to PS3.
These days, I find online gaming rather boring without the banter.

I picked Sony cos of the HDD, joypad, free online, BR player if the format ever took off (fingers crossed ), and the fact that M$ have rarely done anything but annoy me over the last 15 years or so. My mates are on CoD every three months at most, and all I get are friend requests when playing it, but that's next to pointless...

I have an Xbox 360, as it was the cheapest and I have a number of Xbox titles so it made sense. I will probably get a PS3 next year, but still need a number of games to make it worthwhile. I am not bothered about the online features, though blu ray is a nice extra. I am happy that they are not coming out before then.

I thought that sort of time frame (2014-2016) had been in the public domain for a while now.

PS3 came out 2006 IIRC Sony has typically had a 10 year lifecycle for consoles with the PS1/2 Nothing more than a slightly educated guess I'd say though

Yes but you probably get the Sony rumour mill wanting a new Playstation next year because they are not happy with whats available. Just like the Apple one wants this or that in the next iPhone or Mac. Hoping that they can created enough demand for it.

It's been more like a 6 year cycle. PS1 - 1994 PS2 - 2000 PS3 - 2006

6 years between releases but Sony tend to keep the previous gen running each time unlike MS who pretty much killed the original XBox as soon as the 360 came out. So Sony's consoles have a (roughly) 10 year lifespan. There are still PS2 games being released today, for example. I don't know if you define 'live span' and 'life cycle' to be the same though. Jon

You could still PS1s when the PS3 was released. That’s almost 10 years worth of life from that machine.
Also note that on the PSN store, you can buy PS1 games repurposed for the PSP and the PS3.
