For those who want or cant download Liono, Apple have graciously allowed you to purchase a gold plated diamond encrusted USB stick with it preloaded.

... That backup plan, it transpires, is £55 USB thumb drive versions of OS X Lion, available at Apple stores from August 2011. It's a solution for the Wi-Fi-less, time-poor, cash-rich Mac user who needs Lion in their life.

Jeez, if you think that's bad, you should see how much other suppliers want for their OS on nothing more than a DVD!

Was that direct from the Microsoft, or some kind of OEM deal? Seeing as though I may have to upgrade my Windows XP to 7 so I can keep up with Internet Explorer, those prices sound pretty keen - so I am properly interested. I don’t want to shell out vast wads of cash on what for me is an elaborate way to run a browser.

They were the full retail packages from PC world and Currys when the introductory offers were announced. Though I haven't yet used the win7 Pro DVD as that was for my desktop and I don't use that any more.

No they aren't, Android has licencing costs due to patents owned by other companies, so you are actually paying Microsoft through the cost of your device :P as they own a number of patents used on the devices by all manufacturer

I was, of course, referring to my desktop operating system.

We all know MS is a software patent whore, and it's not something they'd get away with in the European Union.

Microsoft are just like every other software company in that respect, like Amazon, Apple and all the others, even Kodak are in on it

Now that Canonical's free CD offer is over, how much would it cost you to buy a Linux distro on CD?

If we're doing a fair comparison that is...

Well since I burn them myself, mere pence, otherwise they're on eBay for 99p.

I suspect you misunderstand...

The point of the Apple USB stick is for those who can't download Lion. How much would it cost to buy a Linux Distro in a shop?
