The dead guy was apparently one of the people trying to rob the store.

Well, following a precedent...

If the dead guy was...
a) one of the people trying to rob the shop.
b) in the group of people carrying the gun.
c) part of the group of people threatening the shopkeeper.

IF the above are true (I am not citing anything, just pointing out plausible situations) then this guy should get off without any charge.

Following the self-defense case a few weeks ago this should surely follow in the footsteps of that?

Maybe the fact that he wasn't at home (or maybe the shop was his home?) might make a difference?

It is not as if he is going anywhere, he was injured and is in hospital. They did not need to arrest him. They can still arrest him another time if it turned out to be very different. If they do charge him then I can see them being counter sued for malicious prosecution.

I don't think that the fact the guy was being robbed automatically means he should be let off.
It is a big difference if you stab somebody in self defence once or ten times...

Hence the theoretical situations.

No one say anything certain without knowing anything about what actually happened.

But it will be interesting to follow what happens given the precedent set a few weeks ago.

I'll def be keeping an eye on it.

Yes but 4 men armed with guns attacking a 72 year old (note no foam pie) means that even 10 stab wounds in one of the attackers would be reasonable. He wanted to make sure the guy could not continue attacking him.

I'm sorry, but if you're the victim of a vicious armed robbery, you shouldn't have to make the choice between being murdered or getting a life sentence for murder yourself.
This guy should be let off!

You could hardly pre-meditate that unless he had a weapon 'ready' for when something like that happens

Worst case manslaughter tbh

And yes there is a difference between stabbing someone once and 10 times, once probably wont permanently disable a person when the majority of people do it

Guess the shopkeeper has never seen The Untouchables if he brought a knife to a gunfight
