Translation: We do not know why people aren't stupid enough to replace all their DVD's with Blu-ray? While I do think that the quality of films in 1080p on my iMacs is incredible I cannot think of a great reason to spend so much for what could be an interim format. There are talks of even higher definition formats. Plus it would be really expensive considering the numbers of DVD's I have. Though I think I would rather spend the money on an upscaling DVD player. |

For me, I'll buy another format when the studios start to produce films worth watching |

Well the Star Wars set are one of the few I might get on Blu-ray. For me anything with David Attenborough is my first thought. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=50.803701,-0.058792 - Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. |

I've got them on VHS and DVD, I don't need them on Blu-Ray as well. The DVD/BD Player/TV do a good enough job of upscaling them, that I can't justify splashing out on BDs of what I already have. |

I do not have them, so for me it is an issue of do I want to start collecting Blu-ray? |

Talk about Lucas flogging a dead horse. Or bantha. I can't believe that huge numbers of people are going to go out and buy Blu-Ray versions of the Star Wars films thus replacing their DVDs. Surely everybody has seen these films many times over? |

I know a guy who has about 5 copies of each Queen album - Jap, LP, remastered... George is playing on nostalgia (to an extent) like everyone else these days ![]() |

I have to agree I have all six in two box sets so am not interested in getting them on Blu-ray unless it were very cheap. Oh as a Jedi these are required religious historical documents so they get regular Jedi watching sessions. |

I have never owned a retail copy of any Star Wars movie, on any format, because I have the first three recorded off-air on a trio of well worn VHS cassettes. I resisted the VHS special edition re-releases as (at that time) I was unhappy with the tweaking. I resisted the DVD's because I wanted a twin-trilogy box set. I will be buying the BD box set. Without fail. I can watch them all quite happily and I will not cheat myself out of them out of silly resentment for Lucas' cash cow tactics, or for the umpteen million other reasons we're all supposed to be upset by what's happened to "it". Whatever "it" is. As for the slow uptake of BD, I agree, replacing one's DVD collection does seem a tad decadent, especially given the quality of some upscaling devices - but that I guess is where (and why) a lot of people just won't don't get new formats. Blu-Ray can not transform someone's living room into the Leicester Square Odeon if their intent to on using a £200 32" "flatscreen" from Tesco with a £10 <name unknown> player that doubles as a home media hub and a toaster.... New formats need to be embraced in their entirety - and BD is more than just about higher definition visuals, it's also about higher definition audio. Which is why I don't buy DVDs anymore, and which is why I'm anxiously awaiting replies to the enquiries I've been making about my new sub box. ![]() |

I have been looking for a new TV at some point and there was a Resolution+ which is supposed to boost standard resolution films to something better. |

I'm assuming nobody really cared (first I'd heard of it, certainly) if this article's date is anything to go by: https://www.toshibalife.com/lcd-tv/next ... -explained You'd think it'd be a major selling point if it actually worked ![]() |

Yes it would. I am looking at two TV's 42" LG or 40" Toshiba with Resolution + but nearly £100 more. Both LED 1080p with 3 HDMI etc and Freeview HD built in. |

Today, I buckled and bought the Alien Anthology BluRay collection. I meant to do this many months ago, but work being more sparse meant that I told myself to wait for the price to drop. It’s around £30 in HMV now. Yes, I’ll be buying the Star Wars set on BluRay too - but not on release day. I’ll wait for the price to come down too. I also want that big Laurel and Hardy DVD box set, and am waiting for that to drop a little bit lower. |
