Quote:
A pensioner has put his foot down on speeding motorists by erecting this bird box outside his home - which looks like a speed camera.

Ian Magee, 63, was fed up with motorists breaking the 30mph speed limit on the main road in Williton, Somerset, so he decided to make his own deterrent.

He created a bird box - complete with nesting holes where the camera lense should be - and painted it the trademark yellow of a roadside speed trap.

Might be hard

As the police say - its on his land and it could be difficult for a council to prove that you need planning permission for a bird box

Plus if those bats have taken up home in there then he won't be able to move it as they are protected.

That is the best bit of this story.

It might be on his land, but it looks like it's crossing the boundary onto public property (over the footpath) and I think that's what'll do for it.

And the bit about the bats looks like pure speculation on the part of the guy and the journalist.

It’s attached to something in his land (a tree), but it’s most definitely across his boundary and in the public space.

Even if it is on his land and had planning permission, he could be forced to remove it if it was found to cause drivers to react in an unsafe manner.

But if it was found that a speed camera caused drivers to react in an unsafe manner that would open a massive can of worms...

I love this quote:
Quote:
'It is causing rather a lot of public interest, which isn't necessary, this is something we want to stop.'

They want to stop the public being interested in things? :o
Idiots!!!

It is much harder to do things badly if people are watching and interested.
