This is how you fight piracy. Watch the entire Godfather movie on YouTube

In its infinite wisdom, Sony Pictures has put up The Gadfather on YouTube in its entirety. The whole movie is available to watch (almost) commercial free as well. This move is likely a result of the partnerships struck between YouTube and several major studios, including Sony, to offer more premium movies for rent and purchase on the streaming site.

The video was uploaded today by Sony Pictures Uk, but is watchable worldwide. As commenter ’420isMySweetHoney’ puts it: “This is how you fight piracy.”

Update: It looks as if whoever put this up didn’t have the authority to do so after all, as the video has been removed on claims that it violates copyright, reports the WSJ.

This account has been suspended due to a violation of YouTube’s policy prohibiting content designed to impersonate another person or user.

The entire ‘Sony UK’ YouTube channel has also been removed.

Typical YouTube, they automatically scan for copyrighted material and take it down automatically and suspends accounts.

The TWiT network is always running foul of YouTube, they comment on the tech industry and often show clips from adverts or other tech shows - on one, they had the head of Onion Network on and he told them to show a video from Onion, YouTube took it down and they had to fight to get it re-instated! :?

What puzzles me is that 90% of videos on YouTube do comprise of copyrighted material. There are entire career-spanning selections of virtually every band's music on there, plus music videos, complete movies divided up into 10 minute chunks, stuff from TV, etc.
