Quote:
Lacoste has reportedly asked Norwegian police to prevent mass killer Anders Breivik wearing the brand in court.

The French clothing label wrote to Norway's police authorities to make the request, Dagbladet newspaper reports.

Far-right extremist Breivik has admitted killing 77 people during bomb and gun attacks in July.

Breivik - who has reportedly said Lacoste is his favourite brand - has been pictured wearing the label since his arrest.

Lacoste has not yet commented on the reports that they are worried by the association with their brand.

On his way to be questioned over the killings, Breivik was pictured wearing a red Lacoste jumper.

Lacoste the brand of choice of madmen. :D

Can they really do this, or expect it?

Presumably his clothes, and his choice.

I can sort of see how they can discourage TV companies from using their stuff, or not supply free for product placement

Reminds me of another 'Situation' (pun wholly intentional, I'm ashamed to say) where a clothing manufacturer wished a celebrity wasn't wearing their brand - Abercrombie & Fitch pay 'The Situation' to stop wearing their clothes.

Not to mention Burberry trying desperately to shake off a certain image.

Yes that is the downside of branding. I wonder what Apple would have done if he prepared his manifesto on Pages? ;) The problem is that once a group locks on to a brand it can be damaged, like Burberry was when chavs started wearing it. They had great sales for a while. Though put off some of their upmarket clients. :D
