Idle home computers are being sought to help search through mountains of astronomical data.

The Skynet project involves using the spare processing capacity of computers as a giant, distributed supercomputer.

PCs joining Skynet will scour the data for sources of radiation that reveal stars, galaxies and other cosmic structures.

People who process the most data could win a visit to one of the observatories gathering data for the project.

That is what they tell you but it is all to help Skynet enslave the humans.

After which some corporation will claim ownership of the processed data and make an absolute metric ton of money off it.

/cynic.

I popped them a question about whether their software was only for cpu's or also gpu's like Boinc but have had no reply as yet. :(

It should be a boinc project then it would have found it easier to get members. I am on a number of projects. One more would be little effort.
