From The Guardian

Quote:
An internet troll who posted videos and messages mocking the deaths of teenagers, including a girl hit by a train, has been jailed.

Sean Duffy, 25, targeted Facebook tribute pages and posted videos on YouTube taunting the dead and their families.

Quote:
Jailing him for 18 weeks, the chair of the bench, Paul Warren, told him: "You have caused untold distress to already grieving friends and family.
"The offences are so serious only a custodial sentence could be justified."

He looks exactly like I'd have thought he would.

Quote:
Duffy, who is unemployed and did not know any of his victims.

Surprise. More here.

He only got a five year ban from social network sites. Should have been longer.

Is that even logistically enforceable?

Well they don't enforce it as such as in stop him accessing the sites if he wants to. It's just that if they catch him doing it they throw the book at him.

True but he has no awareness of what his actions are having on others. So chances are that it might happen again.

Which is very, very, very, very unlikely.

So, apparently, “trolling” is a new internet phenomenon that the media will get excited about. :?

I've been away for a while so I missed this. I did see in a UK newspaper in Naples airport they've already devised some kind of anti-trolling badge and urge people to report incidents to them.
