http://www.gamesradar.com/tgs-2011-ps-v ... ks-priced/Because the system doesn't cost enough... And when are Sony gonna learn with their proprietary formats?* * Yes, I know, piracy. At this rate, piracy might be this thing's best hope!

IIRC, the original spec did have internal storage but they dropped it after the Japanese earthquake raised the component price significantly. I suppose it's one of those things - you either front load the cost by adding internal storage or back load it by making it on memory card. The unpalatable bit of course is that instead of using any of the myriad of 'standard' memory cards or even their own formats like the memory stick M2, they've come up with yet another proprietary storage format. And of course this isn't the games themselves - they come on yet another entirely different micro cartridge.
However whether it's a significant extra cost in the end is something we don't yet know, because we don't know how 'storage hungry' Vita games are going to be. if all you're doing is putting game saves on there and buying all your games on cartridge the 4GB one may be entirely adequate and 20 quid extra is neither here nor there to be honest. However if you plan on buying all your games digitally, you're probably going to need at least one 32GB memory card (my guess is games will take up about a DVD's worth of space i.e. between 5 and 10GB each) so you're pushing the price of the 3G version over 300 quid, which is a big lump of cash for a handheld no matter how good.

I agree (my guess is the card is more for PSN games of every hue and Android-type games), but you're pretty much gonna have to spend £250 before you've even bought a game. All this after a false start with the PSP and fierce competition

Looks okay. Storage looks on the pricey side. Other than that I will leave it to others to see if it is a success.

Latest news story is the Vita will be region-free.
