Police refuse to tackle burglary suspects at travellers’ site 'over health and safety fears’

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... fears.html

Quote:
The suspects had allegedly burgled a farm and Sean Stanley, 27, and his father Paul assumed that retrieving their stolen property would be straightforward, having followed the getaway vehicle and shown it to the team of five officers.
But the police declined to enter the camp and seize the van, insisting that they first had to carry out a “risk assessment”.
The Stanleys offered to do the job for them but were warned they would be arrested if they approached the site.
Northamptonshire Police yesterday admitted that no arrests had been made and that the vehicle and stolen property had not yet been seized following the alleged burglary on Sunday.
The Stanleys chased the thieves after their arable farm near Wootton, Northants, was raided around 10pm.

something similar happened to me (Many years ago). Some travellers knocked down an old woman and I went to help her (Called ambulance etc) and then tried to stop them leaving the scene. They knocked me down and drove off.

Dispite me giving them a description of the blokes and the number plate of the car the police office told me that nothing would be done for the assult or for the hit and run as it would cause them to much agro to attempt to arrest them

See this is why people don't like gypos. They break the law and get away with it.

Would you go in without sufficient backup? The uniform certainly isn't going to save you. Holding the office of constable doesn't obligate you to march in without backup and get beaten the [LIFTED] out of*.

*unless there's an immediate danger to life or property.

And this is why these days people don't give the police the respect they used to. if they don't enforce the law, why should anyone listen to a word they say? They're just a bunch of blokes in silly hats.

As for the traveller's reaction if the police entered the area to arrest the suspects, I'm not quite as sure about what their reaction would be as you are. If I was one of the people sitting in Dale Farm trying to protect my home, the last thing I'd want is for someone to start a riot and give the police an excuse to come in and make arrests en masse (which they would surely actually love to do), leaving the site much more vulnerable when/if the bailiffs come in. As it stands, the police are staying out of it and that's what the residents want to continue. If I was in there, I'd happily give up a couple of scrotes who are obviously so stupid they can't even see that burgling someone when half of the local constabulary and the national media are sat on your door is a pretty bad idea, rather than start a chain of events which will almost inevitably see me homeless.

They've put the whole campaign at Dale farm in jeopardy over a couple of gas canisters. If I was their neighbour, I'd be seriously considering either handing them over or giving them a fair hiding.

I don't think this case is anything to do with Dale Farm.

Northamptonshire, I think, from the posted article.

A couple of flamethrowers and problem solved.

In fact they could increase the business at the Kalashnikov factory by purchasing a few hundred to quickly sort out these people.

Permanent solution... sorted.

Now, if you'd posted that on Twitter someone would have retweeted it to the Northampton plod as incitement to violence.
