My car can get 40mpg if driven carefully. If I thrashed it (full throttle around a track), I'd be getting around 9-11mpg. Am I suddenly going to try to sue VW for this? clicky That's the link to the episode on TG website. For the first few minutes, JC actually compliments the car - it's faster than a Lotus Elise in a drag race. |

Maybe its that people are beginning to wake up to the fact that pure elctric cars are usless unless you only do short distances (less than 10 miles). The TG comparison between the Nissan Leaf and the Peugeot Ion showed exactly how flawed these cars are for "normal" use. |

Given most do 80 miles plus on a charge, 10 miles is a bit pessimistic. For most people, it would be fine for the daily commute, I could probably get away with recharging ever 2 - 3 days. And hairing around a track at full throttle is very different to pottering along an A road at 30 - 60mph. My old Mondeo would do 1,000KM on a tank, if I drove carefully, it would do under 600KM if I hammered it everywhere. Sports cars do even worse, comparing pootling around normal roads and doing 140mph+ on a track all day. I think the truth lays somewhere between the two, the Tesla is a quick electric sports car, for the road. Its motorisation isn't designed for the track. |

True but as TG have said, it's a bit silly styling the car to look like a sports coupe but then find it doesn't drive like one! TBH I'd be a bit miffed if I bought a "sporty" car that didn't drive like a sporty car, and I certainly wouldn't buy one if I knew it didn't! |

The Tesla roadster does drive like a sports car. Just not very far... |
