Hmmm, even console game prices drop ridiculously quickly these days, so I'd love to know how developers are gonna make any real profit on Vita games, especially considering the system's launch price

That's the thing, who will buy one?

I have a PSP but I use it so infrequently there's no need to change, especially at that price.

We still have a Gameboy, a Gameboy Advance SP, a DS, DS lite, PSP and DSi.

With the possible exception of the DSi, they hardly ever see use, apart from on long car journeys.

Tablets and smart phones are probably the way forward.

Indeed. What is interesting about the PSP is that it feels like a “gap” product. The Vita seems like more of the same. We know what way the market in portable gaming is going - it’s phones and tablets. I’m seeing a lot of chatter about the future of compact cameras now that phone cameras are getting better. However, no one has made the same comparison with hand held games consoles. Yet the PSP was really only useful to me for as long as the iPhone wasn’t around, and even then it was awkward. I could not, for example, load my iTunes bought videos onto it. I bought the video camera bolt on for my PSP. I liked it, but I wasn’t really able to do much with the video. My compact camera shoots better video in a smaller form factor, and the *soon to arrive when China decides to make it* iPhone 4S will shoot HD video at a higher resolution than the camera.

So, instead of Sony making a killer phone which just happens to play PlayStation or PSP type games they fudge the idea, and bring out a PSP2. To me that feels like very odd decision to make.

We will see how they sell. I may, if funds permit, pick one up, but really the games available have to be something special to tempt me.

It's obvious to everyone bar Sony that this is what should happen. I'd probably get one then as I'm due a phone upgrade.
