Diane Abbott is both monumentally dumb and monumentally self-regarding. Regardless of her apparent prejudiced beliefs, either of the former should have been enough to get her booted out years ago.

On hearing Diane Abbott is both English and Racist,I hear that a bidding war has begun between Liverpool FC and Chelsea. Labour is holding out for £45m.

the title should be changed to Diane Abbot is racist. Simpler and more truthful.

Why is it that every time someone blows up a story like this, I'm looking to see what other scandal they are hoping to sneak by us while we're distracted by the tabloid outrage.

Sorry - am I being dim? - but I fail to see anything racist in her comments. I think people are seeing a generalisation in a Tweet and deciding that turning the tables may be a wheeze.

Abbott needs to be more careful with her choice of words. Others should have a handy pile of salt to hand if they follow her (or indeed any other politicians).

IMO, this is less about racism and more about the public holding a politician to what is perceived to be their own standards. It is almost certainly the case that if a white Tory MP had said anything so... ill-judged, with a racial context, Abbott would have jumped all over them claimed they were racist and demand they be fired if they didn't resign immediately. I for one am pretty much certain of that. Abbott is nothing if not an arch opportunist. This seems to me that this is less about the exact comment made, and more a case of the public enforcing a rule that 'what is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander'.
