FBI probes Anonymous intercept of US-UK hacking call

That sort of thing is why you can't keep giving security agencies large databases...

Sheffield, Leeds, Hull, you're unlikely to catch me in any of them.

Quote:
One UK officer told FBI counterparts they had not missed much by not visiting the city as it was not "a jewel in England's crown".

why apologise for saying something that is quite blatantly an accurate description?

I've been to Sheffield loads of times (my grandparents lived there). It's a depressing dump.

Yes, but it is not 'the truth'. It is way too subjective to be so, and there are many people who have no problem living or visiting there. And can I say, having grown up in Wrexham, it seems positively lovely in comparison :-P

I've been to Sheffield once on business.
We didn't stay for very long. It didn't seem to be a very pleasant place.

20 years ago it was a dump, way back when the "Hole in the road" was still open. They've spent a fair amount on the city centre, in the intervening time, and probably feel the comments don't do it justice. I can certainly appreciate the difference. I'd never call it a beauty spot, or claim it as a cultural centre, but it's hardly a dump.

Pick any city or major town, step a few yards beyond the city centre and you'll be greeted by the same depressing 1950s/60s housing scheme reality.

I lived there for 5 years (2000 - 2006 - I know that is more than 5 years but I left for a year in the middle of that but kept my house there) and would ahve to agree it is not "The Jewel of the UK"
HAving said that I am sure there are worst Towns / Cities to live in and it did / does ahve some nice areas - just not where at the time I could afford to live in

I used to live in Slough. I'm familiar with rubbish towns. ;)
It was around 2006, I suppose, when I visited. I remember driving past numerous boarded up businesses, petrol stations and houses. It just felt dead. Just had a 'roaming packs of feral dogs' feel to it.

Sheffield's a great place, one of the friendliest places in the country IMO.
