In some ways, I agree and in some ways I don't. In medicine, if a patient comes to me asking for a termination of pregnancy, I can refer them on. However, if I feel it's against my religion/morals/own belief system, then I don't have to. However, I do have a duty of care to the patient and hence should refer them on to someone who can deal with their request. What this means is I don't have to do xyz but I do have to ensure the patient gets seen by someone who can do xyz. If I can do this in medicine, why can it not be extended to other situations? Eg that Christian couple who turned the gays away - instead of just saying no, the equivalent would be to redirect them to a place that they could stay? |

I know the feeling, I had the shocking realisation today that I agreed with the leader of the Labour party about something (NHS reforms). Sobered me right up that did. And agreed on the above. |
