Surely if it was that easy many of the companies would have done it years ago? And where does it leave their diet ranges?

I love chocolate. I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't consume any for more than a week. In the past, I found by abstaining for more than three weeks I could "kick the habit" an no longer crave sweet foods or chocolate.

I'm still a chocoholic. What do I do? Do I guzzle loads of chocolate bars? Apart from the one occasion I bought two for £1 from Shell whilst refuelling, no. I eat a small amount once a week. Either plain or dark. The "hit" is usually enough to keep me going until the following week. Moderation and self-control are important.

Diet chocolate bars are potentially a false economy. They would only work if people consume the same amount of chocolate. One of the dangers of "diet" chocolate bars is that it'll give people an excuse to eat more of them, potentially increasing their overall intake of chocolate bars. I expect diet chocolate bars to be more expensive.

By 30% fewer calories, presumably they mean 30% smaller. It's the only way to do it without ruining the flavour.

If people could just be sensible with their portions rather than feeding their faces until their stomachs explode, it wouldn't be a problem.

Sugar and fat tend to be highly calorific. Whilst it would be wishful thinking that they would make "diet chocolate bars", I agree that they would probably just make them smaller to fit the criterion. Anything else involves increased expenditure.

Exactly right. I'm a fatso because I'm terrible at portion control.

To be perfectly honest, since I'm going to die anyway I'd much rather go out enjoying myself than live off salad for 80 years.

I also don't want to be forced to consume artificial sweeteners just because others can't control themselves.

...especially since they're known carcinogens.

Unless they hold you at gunpoint or similar, you won't be forced.

True, but i will be unwilling to eat those things I like. Plus, they won't taste so nice.

No need for diet chocolate bars. Just eat better quality chocolate with a higher cocoa content.
