It'd just be called Elizabeth Tower. The bell will still be Big Ben. Big Ben will still be a thing that everyone erroneously calls the tower. Can't see the harm, personally. Meh.

The clock tower is what they are talking about renaming. It's not called "Big Ben" it's called the Clock Tower. Big Ben is the nickname of the bell in the clock tower. Makes no difference to the name of the bell if they call the Clock Tower "Elizabeth Tower" does it? Besides, they wanted to build something else, they wanted to build her a yacht but everyone freaked out about that as well!

+1 Build something new and impressive if you want to name something after her. eg The Victoria & Albert Museum.

What a great gift! Take a royal palace the monarchy already owns, and rename a part of it in the monarch's honour. Genius! Darling, I forgot our wedding anniversary this year, but I've renamed our stairs in your honour.

I thought it was called st Stephens tower? But it is still nice to see people jumping in with both feet and making a silly mistake.

Do it after she's dead. Doing is now is just an act of pointless sycophancy.
And people went nuts about the new Royal Yacht because they suggested giving it to her but they also suggested everybody else should pay for it. She's the richest woman on planet earth, if she wants another yacht she can bloody well pay for it herself.

I thought that, too, but St Stephen's is where the public entrance is. The Clock Tower is just that.

Nobody has ever said The queen has ever suggested she wanted a new yacht. It's other people who have put that idea forward, so having a go at liz is just slightly off target

so renaming something that has in real terms no name is less preferred to building an expensive monument/building. So its better to "waste" a lot of money or spending next to nothing... ok!

If they want to change the name from Clock Tower to Elizabeth Tower, then can we rename Buckingham Palace to Parasite Hotel?

I don't want something new built*, but I also don't want the historical name of a part of a very famous building - which has been standing for nearly 200 years - changed to suit the present-day Monarch. What's next, we're going to rename the Great Clock of Westminster too? *at least not with public money, I'm sure they could find a private sponsor.
