If this is true its nice to see Apple ignoring the spirit of EN 62684:2010 but hey its a good revenue stream selling the adapters required and the slice of royalties all the third party manufacturers will have to pay.

Ah screw 'em then. As much as I like my iPhone, I won't be buying anything else from Apple.

Guess people aren't buying the current adaptors etc as they already have them.
Either keep the old one or move to USB. Don't design another proprietry one!

I’ll remind you that Apple is not an EU country, and, like many US countries, is focussed far more on the home larker than it is elsewhere. Siri on the iPhone is limited outside of the USA - can’t find places on the map, for example. Companies based in the USA have a rather dim view of the EU and its regulations, and while it’s an important market to be part of, I don’t think they are going to bust a gut over it unless it becomes mandatory.

A new Dock was rumoured to be on the way for the successor to the iPhone 4. That didn’t happen. If such a dock does appear, then accessory manufacturers will no doubt be making two versions - the iPhone 4 and 4S markets are still live, and supported by iOS. Again, this is a rumour. Until someone from Apple stands on a stage and says “hey - new dock socket” we need to assume that it’s not going to happen.

And I will remind you, sir, that the European Union is the largest single market in the world.

This move just shows, yet again, Apple's contempt for its consumers and other businesses alike.

Of course Apple are well known for using proprietary technologies and not playing nicely with industry standards - such as DLNA - so I'm not surprised. I am, however, surprised that people continue to not only accept this [LIFTED] treatment by Apple, but defend it.

All of them as far as I can tell. Except Apple.

Even things like the Amazon Kindle, my HP Slate and various cameras and gizmos use it.

I have an iPhone. I have used other current phones and prefer my iPhone. When I get the next iPhone I'll get a new USB cable with it.

As far as I can see I'll be no worse off.

If you don't want to buy the next iPhone then fair enough.
