Looks like Anonymous are displeased with the government's recent plans for email and Internet snooping and are employing a DDOS attack.

Quote:
A message on Twitter claiming to be from Anonymous said it was responsible.

The tweet said: "For your draconian surveillance proposals!"

More from the BBC here.

Yes, and of course they're not going to use a large and newsworthy hacking attack against them as justification for bringing in even more draconian internet-related legislation. :|

To be pedantic, which I can't help so my apologies, that quote is attributed to Benjamin Franklin. He was never a US president, though he was president of the state of Pennsylvania for a while.

All of which doesn't stop it being an ever more pertinent phrase.

Law enforcement chiefs strongly back new 'web snooping' powers

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-18810571

Shocking ;)

Are they gonna spend all the money that'll be needed to secure all these potential convictions? Or are we privatising that too?

Reminds me:

I await the inevitable screw-up so big that they don't even try to cover it up
