Think it’s worth reading this article even the five-ring circus that will be happening soon.

Once upon a time the Olympics was about amateurism and the pleasure of sport. But now there is a distinctly commercial ring to them. So has the Olympics become too much about sponsorship?

Every day there's inspirational footage of the torch relay in the British media.

But anyone lining the route has to wait as a veritable cavalcade of vehicles - with the relay's three sponsors Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung shouting over speakers and handing out flags - trundle by before the torch bearer eventually comes along.

The original intent of the modern Olympics
Faster, higher, stronger (human endeavour in sport)

The modern Faster, Higher, stronger profits and protection of our profits.. oh and a sporting event tacked on it

The Olympics should have "UK TAXPAYER" plastered everywhere. Because after all, we were by far the biggest sponsors.

Did you know that this goes very far? There's an official engineer of the olympics, an official architect of the olympics and the other companies are not allowed to advertise that they worked on the olympic park at all.
RIBA is fighting against this as we speak.
Ridiculous.

So, not just London taxpayer. It was supposed to have been funded just from a London stipend (plus the sponsorship), but I believe that changed when the budget jumped from less than £3bn to the current £9bn-ish.

I notice there's not a G4S figurine - or a soldier, except for the posh ones.
