From the Daily Telegraph

I can se how they end up paying the tax listed but I'm somewhat dubious about the notion they can turn a £325m operating profit into a £41m declared loss. HMRC should probably look at that. Hands up who thinks they actually will...

the big boys always find ways not to pay tax and have many a get of jail card free to be able to do so
its only us grunts on the ground who have to pay the full whack and if we fail in paying tax are sent directly to jail (do not pass go, do not collect £200)

but remember 'we are all in this togeather' ... not ...

You misread the article. It's £325m turnover, £27m profit, £6m tax. Although obviously the £27m is a figure arrived at through other tax dodging wheezes such as the Double Irish and the Dutch Sandwich. But those are perfectly legal, as is the £50m share issue that pushed them into such a fortuitous loss.

So until the law is changed, the taxman should spend his time looking elsewhere. He can start with the proprietors of the Telegraph perhaps.

Those sound a lot like they should be something else...
