In other news - Apple wins patent for appealing against software patent judgements!
More seriously, how will this affect the ruling in this country that requires Apple to post "Samsung didn't copy us" notices on their website and adverts?

I was actually rooting for Samsung. Disappointment.

Not in the slightest. There's no reason whatsoever the US and UK courts to have to agree. I find the idea of 'rooting for' a vast megacorporation slightly odd. Especially one like Samsung. They're not very nice people, to put it bluntly. Jon

I've not looked into the ins and outs of everything in the case and cannot be bothered, and I have not seen or used a tablet from either company up close. But the cynic in me asks what the verdict would have been if Apple had been Korean, and Samsung an American based company.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

It's more to do with which court it's in rather than the nationality of either plaintiff. IMO, if you'd swapped sides but kept the arguments exactly the same, Samsung would have won instead. You could argue Apple had an advantage given it was their 'home ground' and therefore they were more familiar as to how the legal game is played but it's not at all as cut and dried as 'the American guys win'. Didn't Samsung get the opportunity to vet the jury pre-trial?

While I'm not saying the patent system is perfect, or even right, I acknowledge that it is there. The rules state that you don't violate someone else's patent. So don't, else face the consequences...

I can't help thinking that if both companies worked together instead if bickering like this, we'd have more awesome toys to play with than we do now.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19364875a better decision when both sides are claiming and/or disputing patent claims ban them both from making sales, it might direct their endeavours away from the courts ...

So a US Jury finds in favour of a US company - now there's a shock Apple is becoming a not very nice company - if they can't bring out a better product than their rivals then they just try to sue them out the market Reminds me of Microsoft in the bad old days.

I agree, the Korea case was the right resolution. Bang their heads together and take their toys away. Then maybe, just maybe, they will play nice in the future.
