ww3 is coming I wonder if my 1943 dated nazi gasmask still works, anyone familiar with gas masks? it has all the parts, filters and it screws on perfectly, would it still work/protect? |

The charcoal would probably need reactivating by heating to a high temperature. Also, it wouldn't be effective against powerful modern nerve agents. |

Given if there ever is a 'proper' world war 3 there are several primary targets for ICBMs in Scotland I don't honestly think a gas mask is going to help Bratty all that much. Nobody is going to try to gas the UK. We'll either be relatively untouched or pounded into radioactive gravel. |

I guess from previous posts that Bratty is somewhere near Lossiemouth, which would indeed be a target. However bearing in mind the hilly nature of Scotland there is a good chance to escape any initial blast as long as you can avoid line of sight to point zero. Now WWII gas masks may not be currently appropriate for nuclear fallout, but the charcoal filter could easily be adapted to become a particulate filter. Human skin is remarkably adapt at preventing the penetration of alpha and beta radiation, and as long as you can prevent the radioactive particles from entering the lungs or affecting soft tissues such as eyes, then a modded WWII gas mask would be much better than no protection at all. |

Failing that, you can do a lot of damage by taking the grid down. If the aim of war is to impose an economic and/or set of core values on an unwilling population, then you don’t need to shell the hell out of them anymore. I think we all remember the myth of the neutron bomb - a device that killed but kept the infrastructure intact. Well, as we are so reliant on electronic communications now for everything, you could pretty much drop us into the stone age by simply switching off the power. There are time when I think that this has already been attempted with some success. |

This is news? The Israelis have always been a bit, er, defensive about their nations preparations for war. As for gas masks and so forth, I really wouldn't bother. Simply enjoy the zombie filled post-apocolyptic landscape before you're inevitably press ganged into a gang who drive and kill for petrol and water, or have your face eaten by a zombie. Or why not become a zombie yourself? More seriously, even if you survive the blast (and even if you're not line-of-sight of the explosion you've still got very big worries in your future) what are you intending on eating and drinking? Come the nuclear holocaust, I'm either going with the suicide option after seeing what's happened to the nation, or stealing a cross channel ferry and setting sail, disco dancing my way into the Atlantic drinking all the booze on board and praying I'm not holed by a sub. |

Yup, in a forest hidden (kinda)  The airfield was attacked in ww2 by luftwaffe and theres still bullet holes that remains on one of the hangers, attacked from a junkers I think, found his grave as he was shot down, only 19 years old
