I'd put money on them breaking all the rules and this costing three times as much when all's said and done. There was an article in the Guardian recently along the lines of why do we hire such morons. The suggestion was the government hires them to take the rap for bad policies; they expect it to go tits up.

I suspect that it will be similar to G4S where there are loads of errors yet the tax payer has to pay for all the mistakes. What we need is a policy that if private contractors are used then they cannot have made any political donations in the previous five years to eliminate even the scent of corruption, and then if the contract fails the company will be disqualified from any government contract for ten years, and any other current contracts will also be ended.

If we had that policy there would be no private contractors being used for the forseable future.. which may or may not be a good thing.

I am not so bothered about stopping private contractors but to stop the corruption. There are many companies who sole source of revenue is government contracts at all levels. These should be banned from political donations including directors. Also there should be life bans for civil servants and ministers from working in any industry that they regulated or administered.
